A Stylist’s Guide To Wearing High-Waisted Pants

Pants! They are my go-to, be it denim or a pair of high-waisted trousers, I’ve always felt comfortable wearing them and given a choice I would pick them over skirts/dresses anyway!
What about you?

We’ve been seeing a lot of high-waisted pants in trend lately, and that has made me so much happier.
So today I’m going to be sharing the 6 commandments you should be keeping in mind when you’re styling high-waisted pants.

A Stylist's Guide To Wearing High-Waisted Pants

A Stylist's Guide To Wearing High-Waisted Pants

1) Style them with fitted crop tops or tuck your top in

If you’ve picked high-waisted pants, ensure you’re emphasizing your body shape by picking fitted tops. Crop tops work great and if you have a longer top, instead of it covering the high-waist pants pattern just tuck it in. It will give you a sharper look. If you were to pick a top that is not sharper and has a lot more volume, it will end up looking like there is way too much going on with the outfit. So keep it simple. Simple always works!

2) If you’re opting for an outer layer, go long

When you pick a shorter jacket over high-waisted pants it can look very boxy which is very unflattering. So always pick a jacket or coat that is longer than your waist and wear your top tucked in to accentuate your shape.

3) Where you wear it matters

You need to be really careful about where the high-waisted pants would look the best on you. The idea of the pants is to give your body the illusion of the hourglass shape whether that is your natural shape or not. To make that happen, wear the pants on your natural waist, i.e. the narrowest part of your torso.

4) Your fabric choice is super important

Denim we know works for everybody – apart from it, say you’re going for linen or wool-blend or even silk, just make sure that it isn’t a straight fit style – go for something that is not too restrictive.

5) Play with design

You see me wearing a waist-tie ruffle design, it adds more volume around the waist area and is perfect for those of you who have a very narrow waist.
If you’re not a fan of the ruffles you can simply opt for a simple tie-design too.

6) Don’t over accessorize

When you wear pants that are the showstopper of your look darlings, it is important that you let it do all the talking. Which means toning down on those accessories. I’ve picked a mini crossbody bag which doesn’t take away the focus from the pants, rather complements it.
